Multi - Colored Prayers

Seven Aspects of Prayer

James 5:16 Says, Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one

another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great

power as it is working. (ESV)

I. Prayer of Supplication

A. In Hebrews 5:7 we see Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud

cries and tears.

*The Hebrew word for supplication is Tachanun it means supplication, supplication for

favor.

*The action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly.

B. In I Timothy 2:1 We see supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be

made for all people.

*The Hebrew word for prayer is Tefilah and it means to judge oneself.

*Another Hebrew word for prayer is Techinnah and it means favor, supplication,

supplication for favor.

C. Phil. 4:6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and

supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

D. Eph. 6:18, Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To

that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

II. Prayer of Intercession

A. In Genesis 18:22-33 We see Abraham Interceding for Sodom.

B. The Hebrew word for Intercession is Paga and it means to encounter, meet, reach,

entreat, make intercession.

C. In I Kings 18:41-46 Elijah goes into intercession for it to rain again.

D. Acts 12:1-18 Intercession is made for Peter to be released from prison and the

prayers are answered by an angel of the Lord released him.

Multi - Colored Prayers

E. Hebrews 7:25 Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who

draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for

them.

F. Exodus 33:11-23 Moses’s intercession is answered by God showing him His glory.

G. In I Timothy 2:1 We see supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be

made for all people.

H. In Hebrews 5:7 we see Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud

cries and tears.

* To truly intercede we plead or mediate on behalf of another person. We

earnestly pray for the needs of others and God’s will for their life. Jesus is our

model of Prophetic Intercession.

III. Prayer of Faith

A. In James 5:15 He says; And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick,

and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be

forgiven.

B. Mark 11:20-25 As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree

withered away to its roots. 21 And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi,

look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus answered

them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this

mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his

heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have

received[c] it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive,

if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in

heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

C. The Hebrew words for faith are:

D. Aman means believe, trust in, rely upon, believe in, have faith.

E. Batah means trust in, trust or rely upon.

F. Mibtah means trust, confidence or confidence….security.

G. Hasah means seek refuge, flee for protection.

H. Galal means to commit…trust….roll. To roll oneself on the Lord.

Multi - Colored Prayers

I. Mahseh means refuge, shelter or to seek refuge.

J. Yahal means wait, tarry for, wait for equalling hope for.

K. Rechats means to rely on, put one’s trust in.

L. Emunah means faithfulness, trust.

* In order for us to fully understand the prayer of faith we must first understand

what faith truly encompasses and it’s full meaning!

M. Matt. 9:18-26 We see the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years healed by her

prayer of faith!

N. Luke 7:1-10 We see the Centurion’s servant healed because of the prayer of faith of

the Centurion soldier.

IV. Prayer of Agreement

A. Genesis 11:1-9 the power of agreement is clearly seen at the Tower of Babel!

B. If nothing that they purposed would be impossible then think of the prayers of

agreement of the saints when praying with one accord in the will of God!

* The prayer of agreement is when two or more people come together and agree

with one another and with the Word of God that something specific will be done.

C. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will

be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are

gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18:19, 20 ESV)

D. Exodus 17:8-13 God taught the children of Israel the power of agreement through

the holding up of Moses' hands!

E. Psalms 133:1-3 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in

unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the

beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of

Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there The Lord has

commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

F. Acts 4:23-31 When Peter and John were released they went back to their friends and

then all lifted their voice together to God and when they had finished praying the place

they had gathered had shaken and they were filled with the Holy Spirit!

G. In Hebrews 10:24-25 We are encouraged not to neglect the meeting together!

Multi - Colored Prayers

H. Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus sends out the disciples on the great commission to make

disciples.

V. Prayer of Thanksgiving and Praise

A. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness!

Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he

who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to

him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever,

and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:1-5 ESV)

B. The Hebrew word for Thanksgiving and praise is Yadah and it means to throw; to

give thanks, laud or praise; to confess something about God; to confess one's own

sin.

C. Another Hebrew word is Towdah and it means Confession, praise, thanksgiving;

giving of praise to God; thanksgiving in songs of worship; thanks choir or

procession; thank-offering, sacrifice of thanksgiving; confession.

D. The Hebrew word Huy'dot means songs of praise and is only found once in

scripture in Neh. 12:8

E. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. (Psalm 22:3 ESV)

F. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and

the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great

earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And

immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were

unfastened. When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he

drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners

had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we

are all here.” And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with

fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said,

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus,

and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of

the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same

hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he

and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before

them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in

God. (Acts 16:25-34 ESV)

VI. Prayer of Contemplation or Soaking Prayer

A. Over the centuries, one of the key ways that believers have sought to know

God in a more intimate way was through this kind of contemplative prayer. In

recent years this practice has come to be known as ‘Soaking Prayer’.

According to the Miriam-Webster Dictionary, the word ‘contemplate’ means,

“To view or consider with continued attention. To meditate on.” The word

‘meditate’ means, “A definite focusing of one’s thoughts on something so as

to understand it deeply.” Soaking prayer is often referred to as an inward

journey in the Spirit. In simple terms, it’s just ‘hanging out’ with Jesus, and

letting Him do whatever He wants to do in our lives. In previous revivals

believers referred to this intimate communion with God as ‘waiting on the

Lord,’ or ‘tarrying’ as they lingered in prayer, expecting God’s revival

blessings. Although ‘soaking’ includes waiting on the Lord, in this present

move of the Spirit it means much more than that. To ‘soak’ in God’s presence

is to rest in His love rather than to ‘strive’ in prayer.

B. Regarding contemplative or ‘soaking’ prayer, Andrew Murray wrote, "Here is

the secret of a life of prayer. Take time in the inner chamber to bow down and

worship; and wait on Him until He unveils Himself, and takes possession of

Multi - Colored Prayers

you, and goes out with you to show how a man can live and walk in abiding

fellowship with an unseen Lord." 2

Bible reading and prayer are not enough to fulfill the longing in our soul for

intimacy with God. Through soaking prayer we can take time alone with the

Father, not asking for anything, but merely enjoying more of Him.

But soaking prayer is nothing new. In a Seventeenth Century monastery, a cook

named Brother Lawrence gave his life to the art of “practicing the presence of

God in one single act that does not end.” He learned to cultivate the deep

presence of God so thoroughly in his own heart that he was able to joyfully

proclaim, “I am doing now what I will do for all eternity. I am blessing God,

praising Him, adoring Him, and loving Him with all my heart.” (Craig Von Buseck)

C. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be

exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10 ESV)

D. To still our hearts long enough to hear Him speak to us and actually have a two

way relationship "This is apart of soaking prayer"

E. We should have regular times of being still and just waiting on The Lord!

F. Steps for soaking:

• Establish a daily time

• Focus on Him

• Be Still and Listen

• Meditate on Scripture

• Be aware of your spiritual senses

- See

- Hear

- Feel

- Smell

- Taste

* Your five senses in the natural are also your spiritual senses as well!

Multi - Colored Prayers

* Don't be afraid God will not give you a snake or a rock when you ask for bread

and fish!

• Journal your prayers

G. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of

discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. (Hebrews

5:14 ESV)

VII. Prayer of Declaration or Declarative Prayer

A. You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will

shine on your ways. (Job 22:28 NKJV)

B. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its

fruit. (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV)

C. The Hebrew word for Declare is nagad and it means: 1) to be conspicuous,

tell, make known 1a) (Hiphil) to tell, declare 1a1) to tell, announce, report 1a2)

to declare, make known, expound 1a3) to inform of 1a4) to publish, declare,

proclaim 1a5) to avow, acknowledge, confess 1a5a) messenger (participle) 1b)

(Hophal) to be told, be announced, be reported

D. When we pray prayers of declaration we are making known the truth of God's

word, proclaiming His promises and power in our lives and our

circumstances! We are confessing His names over our families and

relationships proclaiming the advancement of His kingdom in us and through

us! We are making known the counsel of God to any given situation! We are

being messengers of His sovereign will to our towns, cities, states, and

nations!

E. Here is a declarative prayer taken from Streams Ministries:

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His authority, I cut off every curse that

has been spoken against me to try to stop me from walking into God’s purpose

for my life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in His authority, I cut off all

bloodline and spiritual curses that any person or persons may have placed upon

me, whether by their actions or by any form of verbal declaration at all,

whatsoever.

Through the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pronounce that, in His name, all

these things are null and void as of this moment. Nothing that is against His

purpose for me shall flourish. Nothing, in the name of Jesus, that is anti what He

Multi - Colored Prayers

has created me to become will flourish from this moment on. And therefore, in His

name, I declare that:

my family will prosper,

my children will prosper,

my finances will prosper,

my authority will prosper,

my favor will prosper,

my influence will prosper,

my understanding of Scripture will prosper,

my wisdom will prosper,

my discernment and discretion will prosper.

The power of the Living God will flow in greater measure through me,

unencumbered. It will increasingly become more unencumbered and flow at

greater rates, greater speeds, to change people’s lives and advance the glorious

Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ within me.

I declare that God has determined the pre-appointed time for my life, the exact

place that I would dwell, the exact time that I would be born, the exact location for

my anointing. He has placed me where I am in order for me to touch and change

that area, and that the enemy — the powers of darkness — would be broken

because of the power of the Living God upon my shoulders.

He has done this, so that I would grope for Him, and that I would seek Him, and

that in hope I might find Him, for in Him I live and move and have my being. As

Paul wrote, “We are all His offspring,” and therefore I declare that I am flesh of

His flesh in the Kingdom of the glorious Lord Jesus Christ. I am bone of His bone.

I was born for such a time as this. No matter what has happened in the past, or

what has been happening in the present, I will walk in victory, and I will see the

goodness of God in the land of the living! In Jesus’ name, amen.

F. Declarative prayer will get you out of self-pity, anxiety, confusion and self-doubt.

They will change your mindset and reorient your thinking.

G. So we need to come into agreement and declare who we are in Christ!
